Required Text and Reading for Workshop: Mira Ptacin’s Poor Your Soul
In this workshop, we will examine how Poor Your Soul by Mira Ptacin memoir pushing into and circles around grief and loss. We will study how the story emerges and how the loss is revealed. How does Ptacin unfurl her story? What is absent or withheld, and why? What can we learn from this intensive study of writing about grief and coming to terms with loss? How is time managed within the texts that reflect the cycles of grief?
Our collective inquiry, based on these questions, will not only deepen your understanding of form and narrative but also equip you with the skills to apply this knowledge to your own writing. This workshop is about more than just theory-it’s about finding new ways to tell your story, see the patterns in your story, and find meaning beyond the page.
The generative portion of this course is where the real magic happens. We’ll experiment with the ways form can assist in the writing process and the ways that form can, in itself, become a narrative.
In order to attend and get the most out of this workshop, it is required that you read Mira Ptacin’s Poor Your Soul prior to the start of the workshop.
