Description:
In this course, we will read beautiful and haunting prose and poetry and study the interconnection of genres. In this 2-week intensive, we will take a deep dive into the work of Ocean Vuong – author of Time is a Mother and On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous, which won the Mark Twain Award, and the author of the critically acclaimed poetry collection Night Sky with Exit Wounds.

Readings draw from fiction and poetry texts. Our discussion will raise questions regarding the language usage overall and at the line level looking for similarities and differences in Vuong’s poetry & fiction.

For the generative portion of this course, we will experiment with various genres (fiction & poetry) to tell our stories.

This course expects an intensive reading of the assigned texts as well as avid contribution to the community of the classroom via class discussion and exercise participation.

Required Texts:
Ocean Vuong’s One Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous
Ocean Vuong’s Night Skey with Exit Wounds

**Note: Course texts are subject to change. Final text list will be available on the syllabus.
